LONDON CITY 0 IMPACT U21 2

Win this win, the Impact U21 remains first in the overall standings of the Canadian Soccer League (CSL).

The Impact U21 took the lead at the 47th minute on a right-footed point blank shot from midfielder Zakaria Messoudi that went to the right of London City goalkeeper Fabian Knezevic.

Forward Victor Ndiaye scored the insurance goal on a penalty kick at the 80th minute, beating the goalkeeper to his left. Ndiaye was awarded the penalty after getting tripped by a London City defender in the 18-yard box.

“Despite the position of both teams in the standings, it was a more complicated game than anticipated, against a team that gave us some problems,” said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “They played well defensively and didn’t take too much risk. I’m happy that we found a solution to win the game. We did well diversifying our short and long plays. It was a good game for creativity.”

Impact goalkeeper Samuel Dufort registered the shutout. He notably made an early game-saving play at the 6th minute following a breakaway from forward Michael Marcoccia. The London City team captain took a shot from the top of the box but Dufort made the save diving to his right.

“I think they played a very good game offensively and defensively,” added goalkeeper Samuel Dufort. “We are happy with today’s result. After a first half tied at 0-0, we couldn’t allow ourselves to lose the game and we needed to find a way to get the three points.”

The Academy will play its next two games on the road, facing first London City at Cave Road on July 15 before playing Brampton City United the following day.

The team will play its next home game against the Serbian White Eagles on Saturday, July 23, at 1pm at Saputo Stadium. Fans can attend this game for a cost of $4 for adults and $2 for children.
