NORTH YORK 2 IMPACT U21 7

Win this win, the Impact U21 remains first in the overall standings of the Canadian Soccer League (CSL).

Midfielders Zakaria Messoudi (29th), Alessandro Riggi (39th), Félix Cardin on a penalty (45th) and Kevin Luarca (73th), as well as forwards Michelot Hyacinthe (43th) and Victor Ndiaye (83th, 88th) scored in the team’s seventh win of the season.

“It’s always pleasant to score goals and win games with ease, but there’s always a bad taste left in these kind of matchups because the endings always lack quality and the team suddenly plays in sequence,” said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “It’s a frustrating situation for the coaches. It’s still hard to blame anything on our players, but we must stay consistent until the end.”

The Astros opened the scoring at the 6th minute when forward Nordo Gooden went on a breakaway before lobbing the ball over Impact goalkeeper Samuel Dufort.

The Impact U21 tied the game at the 27th minute on a goal from midfielder Zakaria Messoudi. After dribbling and passing two Astros defenders in the 18-yard box, Messoudi scored on a low shot to the right of goalkeeper Enea Perego.

Midfielder Alessandro Riggo then gave the lead to the Impact at the 39th minute.

The first half ended with a 4-1 score in favour of the Academy.

North York played most of the second half with 10 men on the field following the ejection of midfielder Diego Maradona at the 57th minute on a dangerous tackle.

The Impact U21 took advantage of it and scored three unanswered goals, including two goals from forward Victor Ndiaye.

“I think we played a good game today. The first goal they scored to open the scoring woke us up,” added Ndiaye. "We couldn’t play the standings game, with our team being first and the Astros being last. I think we reacted well following that goal and we took control of the game.”

The Impact Academy will play its next game against London City on Saturday, July 9, at 1pm at Saputo Stadium. Fans can attend this game for a cost of $4 for adults and $2 for children.
