Midfielder Alessandro Riggi (70th and 90th minute) scored twice for the Academy, while Victor Ndiaye opened the scoring in the 7th minute of play.
“That was one of our best matches in terms of willingness and desire to win together,” said U21 Impact head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “However, we committed several technical errors.”
Forward Victor Ndiaye scored the first goal of the game, taking advantage of a bad save from York goalkeeper Camilo Benzi, on midfielder Felix Cardin shot from 18-meters out, to beat him on his right.
The Shooters tied the scoring in the 43rd minute of play, when midfielder Desmond Humphrey beat goalkeeper William Beaudry-Corbeil with a high shot to his left.
Riggi scored the winning-goal at the 70th minute. Accepting a long pass, behind York defensive, from defender Karl Ouimette, he took a high shot above York goalkeeper.
Riggi also scored in the stoppage time, beating the goalkeeper with a high shot on his right on a free kick from 30-meters out.
“We now have to prepare for our game tomorrow against Toronto FC Academy,” added Eullaffroy. “We often have back to back games on the road. Since we entered this league, it’s the first time we have this opportunity in Montreal. We want to take advantage of the situation and get two important wins in two days.”
The Impact U21 will play its next game against the Toronto FC Academy tomorrow, June 26, at 4pm at Saputo Stadium. Fans can attend this game for a cost of $4 for adults and $2 for children.
