Moments of 2012 - Impact signs its first Designated Player

For months prior to the start of the season,  supporters and sports fans alike were discussing around the water cooler who the Impact might sign as it first ever Designated Player.

Speculation was abound as the names of Italian star Alessandro Del Piero, former German captain Michael Ballack and even Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf had been bantered about.

Finally, on May 29, Marco Di Vaio was introduced to the media. The striker was one of the greatest goal scorers in the history of first division soccer in Italy, with 142 goals in 342 games played in Serie A, with Lazio, Bari, Salernitana, Parma, Juventus, Genoa and most recently Bologna, for the last four seasons.

With the Impact in 2012, he scored five goals and added three assists In 17 games played (16 as a starter), including a stretch of four straight games with a goal.
