RESERVE LEAGUE: Impact beats Revs 3-1

Impact beats Revs 3-1

FOXBORO, Massachusetts – The Montreal Impact (4-2-1) beat the New England Revolution (2-3-3) by a score of 3-1 (half-time 2-1), Monday morning, at the Revolution’s training field near Gillette Stadium, in Foxboro. Forward Zakaria Messoudi, midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic and forward Andrew Wenger scored for the Impact.

The Impact opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Following a free-kick that was ineffectually cleared by the Revs defence, U21 Impact player Zakaria Messoudi took a shot from 20 yards out, from centre towards goal, which deflected off of a defender before beating goalkeeper Tim Murray towards the upper part of the net.

The Impact doubled its lead in the 42nd minute. Midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic, who was wearing the captain’s armband for the match, took a pass from Lamar Neagle before beating Murray towards the opposite post from inside the 18 yard box.

The Revolution got one back in the first half in extra time when Dimitry Imbongo chased down a deep ball, and then beat Bush high.

Forward Andrew Wenger scored the Impact’s third goal in the 61st minute. After forcing a turnover in the Revs’ zone, Wenger broke in alone down the right flank, beating Murray with a low shot.

Goalkeeper Evan Bush came up big in the 37th minute, stopping a penalty shot by Imbongo. Bush read the play perfectly, diving to his right to stop the low shot. The PK resulted from a foul in the box on Sainey Nyassi.

“Evan was the difference today in keeping us in the game, and we were able to capitalize on our scoring chances,” said Impact assistant coach Mike Sorber. “It’s always good to play in real game situations that you can’t get in training. This gives our guys a chance to stay sharp and ready for regular season matchups.”

Wenger and Neagle both had good scoring chances in the 6th and 91st minutes, respectively.

In addition to Messoudi, two other U21 players played the full 90 minutes for the first team: Maxime Tissot and Wandrille Lefevre.
