Impact U21 shuts out Kingston FC 7-0
MONTREAL – A hat trick by midfielder Wandrille Lefevre and two goals by forward Charles Joly helped the Impact U21 team earn its fifth win of the season, beating Kingston FC by the score of 7-0, Sunday, at the complexe sportif College St-Jean-Vianney, in RDP.
With that win the Impact remains second in the Canadian Soccer League standings, two points behind Toronto Croatia.
“This was a very good win for us with some nice offensive and defensive sequences. We played well from the very first minute,” said U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We also served our role well as support for the first team, giving Karl (Ouimette), Josh (Gardner) and Bryan (Arguez) playing minutes with us today. It’s also very satisfying to get back on the right foot after the loss last game.”
The Impact opened the scoring in the 19th minute from a play that was built in centre field. Forward Alexander King played the ball to Victor Ndiaye, who broke in alone on the Kingston goalkeeper Morgan Kenny. The forward took a low shot that fooled Kenny to his right.
Two minutes later, midfielder Wandrille Lefevre doubled the Impact’s lead, scoring from a free-kick from 25 metres out. The ball sailed over the wall, beating the keeper to his left.
Positioned at the second post, Josh Gardner put the ball into an open net in the 35th minute after receiving a cross from Ndiaye, coming from deep down the right flank.
Lefevre completed his hat trick in the second half, scoring twice on penalty kicks. On his first shot, in the 56th minute, Lefevre scored with a low shot with Kenny diving to the opposite side. In the 71st minute, Lefevre went to the opposite side to score.
Forward Charles Joly, member of the Impact U18 side, scored the last two goals of the match, in the 81st and 87th minutes.
The U21 side dressed three players from the first team, including defenders Karl W. Ouimette and Josh Gardner, who played as midfielder, as well as midfielder Bryan Arguez.
The Impact U21 will host the Mississauga Eagles FC, on Sunday, July 8, at the complexe sportif College St-Jean-Vianney.
