Forward Miguel Montaño signs with the Impact for MLS
MONTREAL – Following the signing of English midfielder Ian Westlake earlier this week, the Montreal Impact announced Wednesday the signing of forward Miguel Montaño (Mon-tan-yo) for its debut season in Major League Soccer (MLS). Per club and MLS policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
The Colombian forward becomes the fifth player from the 2011 Impact roster to join the team in MLS in 2012, and second player from Colombia after defender Nelson Rivas.
"In 2011, Miguel showed that he is a dangerous, mobile, and intelligent young forward and his performances helped the team to a very strong second half of the season," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. "Moving into MLS, we believe that Miguel is ready to elevate his game even more and contribute to a successful year in 2012."
Montaño, 20, was loaned to the Impact by the Seattle Sounders FC, from Major League Soccer, on August 15, 2011. In six games with Montreal, including five as a starter (413 minutes of play), Montaño registered one goal and two assists.
Before joining the Impact, he played two games with the Sounders' first team in 2011 and eight games, including five starts, with the reserve team, tallying one goal and two assists in 465 minutes.
In 2010, he played 12 games with the Sounders, in all competitions, including six as starter, tallying two assists in 535 minutes of play. During the previous season, he scored 13 goals in 19 games with Club Atlético Quilmes, in Argentina. In 2008, he scored 18 goals in 24 matches with the reserve team of Colombian club Envigado FC.
Internationally, Montaño played one game with Colombia's Under-20 national team, against Ecuador, on April 22, 2010.
