The Impact selects 10 players in the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft

Ching, Valentin and Mapp among selections

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact proceeded to the selection of the 10 following unprotected players in the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft:

Brian Ching
Forward – 33 – Houston Dynamo – United States

A veteran of 10 seasons in MLS, the American striker appeared in 20 games (1,242 minutes of play) in 2011, scoring five goals and adding one assist for Houston. He has won three MLS Cups in his career, in 2003, 2006 and 2007, and was named the 2006 MLS Cup MVP after scoring the winning goal in a shootout. He also helped the Dynamo reach the final of the 2011 MLS Cup. Ching has scored 77 goals and added 28 assists in 189 games played over his MLS career. He is one of the most accomplished players in the U.S. National Team history, scoring 11 goals in 45 games and played in the 2007 and the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, winning the tournament in 2007.

Zarek Valentin
Defender – 20 – Chivas USA – United States

Drafted in the first round, fourth overall, in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Valentin played in 25 games (2,114 minutes played) with Chivas USA in his first season in MLS. He is currently a member of the U.S. U23 Olympic National Team.

Justin Mapp
Forward – 27 – Philadelphia Union – United States

Named to the MLS Best XI squad in 2006, Mapp has scored 18 goals in 221 career games in MLS since 2002, with D.C. United, the Chicago Fire and the Philadelphia Union, and won the 2003 and 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He has also appeared in eight games for the U.S. National Team, winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2007.

Bobby Burling
Defender – 27 – San Jose Earthquakes – United States

Burling played in 23 games (2,041 minutes of play) for the Earthquakes last season, starting in every one and adding one assist to his solid defensive play. The American-born player is a veteran of five MLS seasons, appearing in 71 games for both San Jose and Chivas USA.

Jeb Brovsky
Midfielder – 23 – Vancouver Whitecaps FC – United States

A midfielder/defender, Brovsky joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC after being selected as the first pick in the second round (19th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The American played in 24 games (1,509 minutes played) for Vancouver in his rookie season following a stellar college career with the University of Notre Dame.

Collen Warner
Midfielder – 23 – Real Salt Lake – United States

Warner has appeared in 37 games for Real Salt Lake in his first two seasons in MLS. The 2011 season was a breakout year for Warner as he totaled five assists in 24 games (1,106 minutes played), including 15 as a starter. He also appeared in three CONCACAF Champions League games for RSL, scoring one goal and one assist.

Josh Gardner
Midfielder – 29 – Columbus Crew – United States

Gardner scored two goals and added two assist in 22 games (1,812 minutes played) with the Columbus Crew in 2011. Drafted by the Galaxy in 2004, he played 21 games in three seasons with Los Angeles in MLS, winning the MLS Cup and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2005. He then played in over 100 games in the USL with the Seattle Sounders and the Carolina RailHawks from 2007 to 2010.

Sanna Nyassi
Forward – 22 – Colorado Rapids – Gambia

The Gambian forward played 26 games (1,586 minutes of play) in 2011 with the Colorado Rapids, registering five goals and five assists, including a hat trick, against the New York Red Bulls on July 20. He has totalled seven goals and eight assists in 64 career MLS games over three seasons with Colorado and Seattle. He has represented the Gambian national team at several levels, including two games with the senior team.

James Riley
Defender/midfielder – 29 – Seattle Sounders FC – United States

The veteran of seven seasons in MLS has played in 195 career games, spending the last three season with Seattle. He has won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on four occasions, in 2007 with the New England Revolution, and in 2009, 2010 and 2011 with the Sounders. He has also been an Expansion draft selection twice before in MLS, in 2007 with San Jose and with Seattle in 2008.

Seth Sinovic
Defender/Midfielder – 24 – Sporting Kansas City – United States

The American-born Sinovic played in 20 games (1,737 minutes played) with Sporting Kansas City in 2011 and 20 games with New England in 2010, after being drafted by the Revolution in the second round, 25th overall, in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
