IMPACT U21 1 (2) CAPITAL CITY 2 (3)
“I think that these two games showed that there was not a big difference between the two teams,” said Impact U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “Overall, we still accomplished our main season objective by earning a playoff spot and we enjoyed a very positive season. We played a lot of games that were important for the players’ development.”
“It was a very physical and intense series. Both teams registered a lot of scoring chances and both sides deserved to win,” added team captain Karl Ouimette. “We played well against a very talented team. We progressed a lot throughout the season and got better collectively and individually.”
Capital City opened the scoring at the 11th minute of play. After receiving a pass from midfielder Mahir Hadziresic in between two Impact defenders, forward Akil DeFreitas took a shot that beat goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau to his left, after hitting the crossbar.
Two minutes later, Ouimette saved a goal when he cleared the ball off the goal line following a lob that went over the Impact goalkeeper.
Midfielders Kevin Luarca, Wandrille Lefevre and Félix Cardin had scoring opportunities but Ottawa goalkeeper Clint Irwin allowed his team to head into the half with a 1-0 lead.
At the 53rd minute of play, Hadziresic doubled Capital City’s lead, when he found an opening in the Impact defence and advanced towards the goalkeeper before lobbing the ball over Crépeau with a left footed shot.
The Impact U21 reduced the margin to one goal at the 77th minute of play. Midfielder Kevin Luarca made a run with the ball down the right side of the field and took a point blank shot in the 18-yard box, beating Irwin to his right.
Meanwhile, the Impact will hold a two-day tryout for its under-21 team, on November 5 and 6, at Marie-Victorin Sports Complex, in Montreal.
It is possible to register for the tryouts via edsimpactmontreal.com, in the recruitement section.
