AMATEUR
Made his debut at the provincial level in the Quebec Major Juvenile Soccer League with the Notre-Dame-de-la-Consolata Patriots, a club he had been playing for since age 5... Stayed with the club when it merged with local Portuguese-based club Sporting... Then went on, with Sporting-Patriotes, to play in the Quebec Elite Soccer League (QESL) when the league was formed at the start of the 1990s... Picked several times on the QESL all-star teams, was also proclaimed Defender of the Year in his category... Helped Sporting-Patriotes reach the national club championship in the U15 category, then years later go on to win the national title at the U19 level, in 1994... Also won the silver and bronze medals at the national select team championships with the U15 and U17 Quebec Select Teams.
INTERNATIONAL
Was invited to the Canadian World Cup team training camp, held January 8-20, 2006 in Carson, California... Was selected for the subsequent international friendly against the United States, last January 22 in San Diego, that resulted in a 0-0 tie... Made his debut with the Canadian senior team on October 10, 1999, against Haiti, in a Gold Cup qualifier... Played in the Gold Cup tournament (CONCACAF Nation’s Cup), held July 12-27, 2003, as well as in international friendlies against Germany and Barbados in 2003 and 2004... Had 11 caps with the Canadian Olympic team, taking part in qualifying matches in 1996 for the Atlanta Games... Won the gold at the 1997 Francophone Games at Madagascar... Played in the U17 World Championship in 1993 in Japan and the U16 World Championship in Cuba in 1992.
PROFESSIONAL
Made his USL D1 debut with the Impact in 1995... Officially joined the Impact in 1995 at age 17, after spending the 1994 season training with the team without signing a contract... Played for the Richmond Kickers in 1999, the year Montreal did not play outdoors... Helped Montreal win the league championship in 2004, as well as the regular-season title in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2005 and 2006... Picked up his first career point with the Impact in 1997, his first two goals in 2000... Was picked on the second All-League team in 2004, 2005 and 2006... Was named the Impact’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2005, earning that award for the first time at age 29, in his 10th season with the team... Was on the starting eleven for the 2004 championship game, which the Impact won 2-0, against the Seattle Sounders…. Had an assist on Fred Commodore’s insurance goal against Seattle... Reached the 15,000 career minutes-played mark with the Impact during the May 21, 2006, game in Montreal… In 2007, missed almost the entire season after going under knee surgery during the off-season… Came back strong in 2008 and was proclaimed Defensive Player of the Year by the Impact… Was selected to the USL First Division First All-League team for the first time in his career… Started 15 of the 18 games he played for a total of 1,253 minutes… Missed a few games due to a shoulder injury… Helped the Impact to end the season with the second best defense in the league, tied with Vancouver, with 28 goals in 30 games… On June 28 in Seattle, played his 220th career game with the Impact, surpassing at the same time Nick De Santis for second spot in club history… Took part in nine of the ten CONCACAF Champions League games (765 minutes)… Signed a two-year deal with the Impact on November 12, 2008..
2009 SEASON
Named Defensive Player of the Year by the Impact for the third time in his career… Played almost 1,929 minutes in 21 starts and 22 matches… Scored the game-winning goal against Miami, on June 23… Was one of four Impact players to earn 20 starts or more over the regular season … Scored a goal in the decisive quarterfinal leg in a 2-1 victory against Charleston at Blackbaud Stadium, September 27… Became the second player in Impact history to reach 2,000 minutes played in the playoffs… Won his third playoff championship with the Impact… After 15 seasons with the club, became the fifth team captain in club history on January 25, 2010, succeeding to Mauro Biello. |
