MARC DOS SANTOS FINALIST FOR COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
MONTREAL – Montreal Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos has been nominated as finalist for the United Soccer Leagues First Division Coach of the Year award.
Dos Santos, 32, became interim head coach of the Impact last May 14, after succeeding to John Limniatis. Dos Santos had previously been assistant coach of the Impact, as well as head coach of the reserve team, the Trois-Rivières Attak, in 2007 and 2008.
At the helm of the Montreal Impact, Marc Dos Santos led the team in all its wins during the regular season. He maintained a 12-8-6 record in 26 USL-1 matches, which allowed the team to qualify in the playoffs and advance to the championship final with four consecutive wins.
“It’s an honour for the club to have its head coach nominated among the top four league coaches,” commented Impact technical director Nick De Santis. “It’s great for Marc (Dos Santos) to see his work being recognized by the club and the league, especially after all the efforts he has put since the day he took over. This is a personal honour that he should be proud of just as much as we are.”
The other finalists selected for the title are Colin Clarke, from the Puerto Rico Islanders, Martin Rennie, from the Carolina RailHawks, and Gavin Wilkinson, from the Portland Timbers. Finalists were determined on the basis of a vote by the coaches and the general managers of the USL First Division.
In previous years, Bob Lilley (2003) and Nick De Santis (2005) received the Coach of the Year Award, however in their second season at the helm of the team.
